Sheila holds a Massachusetts special education certification and has experience as a teacher and as an administrator in special education settings. As the leader of a charter school, she was also the school's special education director and during this tenure completed a year-long veteran special education director's institute with the Massachusetts Department of Education. She was a principal for 22 years in multiple districts and played an active and participatory role in all areas of special education during her principalships including reading all reports, drafting IEP's and signing off on IEP’s. Sheila regularly participated in team meetings and, at times, chaired team meetings. She has a strong understanding of curriculum, current strategies and practices, school discipline and state and federal regulations and laws. For more than twenty years she has also provided advocacy services for families.
